'New Look, New Comitment'

"The poultry industry is developing an even greater understanding of nutrition’s role in promoting intestinal health."

Welcome to the premier issue of CocciForum’s Intestinal Health, a "new" magazine for the poultry industry, sponsored by Schering-Plough Animal Health.

I use the word "new" in quotation marks because, in reality, the magazine dates back to 2001, when we published our first issue of CocciForum, a magazine devoted to covering new strategies and ideas for coccidiosis management.

Rapid growth

CocciForum was well received worldwide and soon grew to include three separate regional editions (Europe, North America, Latin America). But just as the magazine expanded, so did the industry’s understanding of coccidiosis, necrotic enteritis, gangrenous dermatitis and other costly enteric diseases.

At about the same time, with the help about this increasingly important area of the IDEA concept (CocciForum No. 9), of poultry health. We also hope the the poultry industry developed an even magazine will help producers meet new greater appreciation for nutrition's role challenges from consumers, such as in promoting better gut health, improving growing value-added birds without performance and managing enteric compromising flock health, welfare or diseases without antibiotics.

For that reason, the name CocciForum just didn't seem to be big enough anymore, so we changed it to CocciForum's Intestinal Health. While we were at it, we also developed a new editorial format that makes it easier to read and navigate. In addition, we updated the design to capture the energy and innovative spirit of today's poultry industry. We hope you like the new look.

Food for thought

We have produced Intestinal Health to meet the growing demand for information with the help about this increasingly important area industry of poultry health. We also hope the magazine will help producers meet new challenges from consumers, such as of growing value-added birds without enteric compromising flock health, welfare or performance. This magazine contains lots of meaty articles that will help you implement an even better intestinal health program—one that integrates good management, environmental factors, nutrition, supplements and vaccination.

Do you still need more information about promoting better intestinal health? This issue and past issues of CocciForum magazine are now available at www.ThePoultrySite.com/intestinalhealth We’re also developing a new Intestinal Health web site that will become available this year.

Thanks for your support and enthusiasm for our publication. Please share your comments and suggestions with your Schering-Plough representative or contact me personally.
